Events, Parkrun and Getting Back to Normal!
Thats me on the left, taken at the Scottow Sundowner 5k in August 2018
This week I received notification of the only event that I had left this year that hadn't already been cancelled, unfortunately had now been cancelled. I have missed running events this year. I've started doing more and more over recent years and I try and do at least 6 a year, all over varying distances, 5k-half marathons.
If any of you haven't participated in any running events I would definitely recommend it. If you haven't, please don't think that they are just for elite or fast runners, they are for everyone. Every "race" that I have "competed" in there have been runners of all levels.
It's great to get the atmosphere before the race, the anticipation, the timing of the last wee, the start, the crowd that get you through and the sprint finish. The medals for completing the event make it addictive.
I also love running in the Uphill Struggles tees. I love that it brings a smile to my face and others whilst running. Its a great talking point with everyone, I always get comments about them from other runners about how they like them and it really does get me round.
Me mid 5k!
So I get it... this is a bit of a pointless post as events are cancelled and we can't do them. BUT! It is positive to see that Parkrun have put a framework together for the start of their Saturday morning runs. Hopefully it won't be long until the next Parkrun. Parkruns are an ideal start, don't be nervous, every Parkrun that I have been to has been very inclusive. Everyone is so friendly and there are people that walk it. What's best is that it is free, you'll always find friends there, what have you got to lose!
Lets all just hope we won't have to run with a mask on!

At the end.... yay! Still able to stand!
Still can't believe we use safety pins!
